Μαρία Παπατζέλου | Αύγουστος – Αποχαιρετισμός σε ένα αμήχανο καλοκαίρι (III) / August / Farewell to a strange summer/

 white sail
gliding in the horizon
take me along.
The sea washed us away. The waves sank the clouds in our minds. Not to everyone. Many people are in the cities, dazed by sweat and bans, and still waiting for the journey. Not vacations- I never liked that word – but the journey. This year’s small journey. So many pictures and words, more than the mosquitoes on our skin at dusk. Few awkward hugs, with a fear of intimacy that never leave us. Lots of news , more news than August needs. August 15th and you already feel nostalgia for another ending summer . An internal resistance doesn’t allow you to return. Maybe because last spring was isolated.

diving backwards
sky moist in the light
got me startled.
You dive in deep waters, holding your breath. You turn backwards, looking straight at the sun, through the water. You stay still there for a while. The whisper of the sea, now becoming a silent music in your ears, until the buoyancy raises you to the surface of a noisy August beach. You know already that returning to the city till September, you will be completely absorbed by everything you longed to leave behind this July … Summer is tiny, like a sweet drink, served in a small glass, it doesn’t quench your thirst, you only get drunk from its taste. This summer was different, you drunk it all at once, so you didn’t quite understand the bittersweet taste of it, left in your mouth.

a tiny moment
the untold words
seashell sound.
